'Tis The Season...

As we head into the holiday season & away from all the negativity of the political attack ads that have plagued the airwaves for months on end, rather than beleaguer you with yet more information about the woes of the economy, we thought we would share a story worthy of the giving season. Each year Capital’s team looks at different charities that we can contribute to, and this year, one of our team was especially touched by a young man he’d met who was helped through the Salvation Army's adult rehabilitation program....here is his story.

Make Holiday Time Quality Time

If you tend to find yourself frazzled and overextended during the holidays, employ some of these time management strategies to regain control and recapture the joy of the holiday this year!

1. Make a list:  Divide a page into three columns, with the headers “have to do”, “want to do” and “can wait until next year.”  List out your “to-dos” under the appropriate columns and put your “next year” items on hold until after the busy season subsides.

Keep Cozy This Winter

According to the United States Department of Energy, the average American household will spend 15% more this winter to heat their homes due to higher oil & gas prices and projections for a colder winter. While up from last year, these projections are lower than earlier estimates due to decreased demand and a more recent downward push on prices. During winter months, there are some simple, energy-efficient adjustments you can make to keep your gas and electric bills from soaring.

Broker Licensing

Congratulations to Neil & Steve for passing their mortgage broker licensing exam! The Colorado State Legislature passed a bill last summer changing the mortgage broker registration requirement to a licensing requirement that includes 40 hours of coursework and an entry exam. Brokers are required to be licensed by January 1, 2009. While classes and testing have been available since this spring, currently less than 15% of the registered mortgage brokers in the state have passed the test.
